Five artists' take on flags and flag-like motifs
Jennie Carr, Keisha Rollins, Roxy Savage, Mark Savoia, Rita Valley
“EATING FLAG” imagery is my artist's response to reclaiming the American flag through a domestic feminist lens.
The digital prints displayed in Flag Bearers are part of the EATINGFLAG series.
My process begins in the kitchen, where I make flag-shaped Jell-O* molds. These molds are photographed, digitally rendered, and generated using Adobe software, then printed on a Canon Pro 1000 printer. The series explores the entangled and layered meanings of flags, female identity, and gelatin, inviting engagement and social discourse.

“The five digital images in this exhibition are selections from SIDESHOW series. The term SIDESHOW refers to something less important than the main event. The title jokingly refers to the massive archive of images and prints I make and collect to document and reveal my creative process. This body of work is a visual oasis for my interdisciplinary art practice.”

Online exhibition
Goddesses and Monsters exhibition was conceived and curated by The Association of Hysteric Curators and presented by the LADIES’ ROOM LA. Roxy is exhibiting “Soapdish Goddess” video, created with Playform io. AI-generated technology.
“The artworks in Goddesses and Monsters draw on archetypes of Goddesses and monsters, addressing themes that transcend masculine tropes of goddess and monster iconography, creating a wholly new genre for feminist art history. Our goal is to create an original pantheon of sacred images-both awesome and terrible- to guide and inspire us in our global struggle for gender equality and justice.”

The projects are taking place in the towns of; Beacon Falls, Easton, Fairfield, Darien, Bridgeport, Hartford, Waterbury, New Haven, Meriden, North Haven, Hamden, Branford, and Washington Depot.
Artists: Roxy Savage + Crystal Heiden
Lady Labor Project are “how-to” videos that feature artists Crystal Heiden and Roxy Savage teaching each other specific acts of female labor that are primary to their individual art practices. Both share conceptual and feminist mindsets but possess very different skill sets. Crystal is a multimedia artist who is a metal fabricator, problem solver, and tool expert. Roxy is an interdisciplinary artist working in analog and digital media focusing on kitchenalia and domestic Space.
The videos are a record of the artist’s “skill exchanges”: Crystal teaches Roxy how to dig a hole, navigate via compass, use a skill saw, and be a mermaid. Roxy shares her “domestic repurposing skills” teaching Crystal how to iron shower caps, make jello sculptures, smash molds, print on shower curtains, and sew a straight line. The videos document the powerful skills all women possess and can gift each other. Creating this collaborative artwork aims to present two diverse sets of “art-making actions” (domestic and utilitarian) that reveal, challenge, and entangle female stereotypes.
