Pantry/Sampler

The Pantry/Sampler sculpture explores molding, casting, collecting, female identity, shelving, and arrangements. The artwork comprises a wooden shelf frame, an organza textile, and a mix of handmade and store-bought objects. These items reflect a complex intertwining of personal stories, female archetypes, cultural stereotypes, and national symbols. The Pantry/Sampler collection was created through experimental processes and thrift store purchases. Objects on the shelves include shiny and dull objects and natural and artificial materials.

The transparent printed organza textile hung in front of the sculpture mirrors the objects on the physical shelf, creating a visual connection between the two. This textile invites viewers to engage with the piece in various ways, allowing them to look through it and walk between the open corridor formed by the textile and the shelf.

The artwork resembles a knickknack shelf, drawing on the historical tradition of women displaying personal mementos and cherished items in their homes. Inspired by the concept of a Wunderkammer (a cabinet of wonders), the Pantry/Sampler represents a collection of objects, each holding significance within the artist’s unique vocabulary and artist lexicon. The work invites reflection on identity, memory, and the creative act of arranging and displaying personal relics.
